Yes, Anders that seems to be the case. The NI plugin that I got was the FX unit 
of the instrument and not the instrument itself. What confused me was that the 
GUIs for the FX and instrument are similar.

$ auval -a | grep Kore
aumf NiKP -NI-  -  Native Instruments: Kore Player FX
aumu NiKP -NI-  -  Native Instruments: Kore Player

Even Audacity only loads the FX unit. Apologies for the inaccuracy.
