One hell of a good read, and question/rant.

meh, entertaining, I guess. But nothing new...
He sounds like the classic "disgrunted sysadmin" who has long needed a
solid *thwack* with the the clue stick. (Lemme guess, the Bobs did not
appreciate his mad sysadmin skillz "on an expert level"!)
Anybody can complain. I've seen management squander 1/2 a million
dollars on stupid solutions, and while it's fun to regal those stories
to others who also have been in those solutions, in the end, it's
probably better to just laugh and tuck that experience away and use it
to your advantage next time.
This is one of the differences between a $50K/year "IT professional" and
a $200K/year "IT professional". The latter looks at why projects don't
fly (executives didn't know why he was doing something, mid management
didn't know what he was doing, lower ppl didn't know how to do
something, etc) and corrects. S/he doesn't *just* focus on the "how"
part, but rather understands organizational structure to the point where
s/he can address the "what" and "why" for those above him/her.
I mean, c'mon....how is IT different than any other industry? He's
getting older and is developing less patience for people who don't know
what they're doing. That's just life.
