T-mobile 3G was just put into place where I live this month (Atlanta) and it
has been far superior to AT&Ts service. With AT&T and my blackjack I barely
got edge in my apartment and if it found a 3g signal it would switch to that
which was an even worse signal. When I moved here I had been without a cell
phone for a bit so I was getting a fresh contract and I spoke with a tech at
AT&T who checked their internal tower overlays. He told me that I was
completely covered by 3G and looking at the consumer maps I am completely
covered, but even outside the apartment I don't get 3g half the places I
should.

With the G1 I have been getting 1-3 bars of 3G in the apartment that
alternates with 2-4 bars of edge (4 is the max bars on the phone). You also
have the option to turn off 3G service to save battery and to prevent it
from jumping back and forth between service.

There are some things that need work, but it is a 1.0, the iPhone had
problems too. I would like a virtual keyboard for when the keyboard is
closed, but from what I have read that is on the roadmap and should be done
in early 2009. Maps is awesome, contact/gmail/calendar integration is
slick, even with the minimal number of apps right now a number of them are
quite sick and I really can't wait to see what comes out within the next few
weeks/months.

I was worried about the battery, but so far it hasn't been horrible. I had
to go into the hospital last night so I wasn't able to test the life as much
as I wanted.

I could go on and on about it, I can't compare it to the iPhone because I
didn't own one, but I am paying a cancellation fee with AT&T and moving to
T-mobile because I love this phone and the service so much. The monthly
fees before discount are also less than AT&T with corporate discount.
