As a personal preference, I'm running Debian Lenny as a base system, with any "at-home" and/or "at-work" systems that I need as VirtualBox machines (i.e.: my at-work Windows XP system). I use tools described in the above document to protect my base (and hence my virtual) machines . . . The VirtualBox package has just been picked-up for ongoing support and development by Sun Microsystems, and to me (for my purposes) exhibits at least 3 times better performance than VMware.
