In case you missed what I was saying, if you fill out the paperwork on CAcert, bring some ID (the more the better), then you can get a CAcert issued to you, which is sort of like having your own SSL cert to verify that your host is what it says it is.

In other words, instead of paying $1000+ per certificate, you can have them issued to you for free via CA (Certificate Authority). Read the bottom of that last URL, and you'll see why one might want to use a system that's not the big guys that require lots of money.
