Subject: acer vista

My friend/co-worker got an acer with vista at walmart last weekend.
He says that it has 3 gigs of ram and 160 gigs hard drive.
He says he got it for $275.00 (or close to that/don't remember, but under 3
hun.)
I didn't ask him about the processor.
sounds too good to be true, but I'll have to check again/look at the box myself.
He say's it was only one day blowout.
Anyways, I think I almost have him talked into installing ubuntu.
(Not that I really tried to talk him into it/just suggested it)
He seems to think it may not be such a bad idea.
He made the 11 cd recovery disk set. (with all the free trial ware of course)
I am wondering if he can order the Vista OS disks or disks for a minimal charge.
Does M$ or Acer or whoever still do that thing where you can get the bare
OS without all the trial-ware for a minimal fee?

Drawing from what I've read on the list, am I not correct to interpolate that
Acer is very linux compatible?

Thanks
Paul

Maybe I'll set him up with ubuntu, and set up his vista, xp, and possibly
other appliances in vmware
