I think Oracle buying Sun puts those software packages at risk.
Oracle might not have the same view of FLOSS as Sun.  It could be
something to hold over the communities head.  I wonder if Oracle's
stock would go up if they announced they were going to charge for
Mysql's future releases.

I wish Sun would just get their {stuff} together and Use LInux,  like
Solinux or something ::grin::, and/or make Solaris simple to use.  I
know they sell machines with LInux, but that isn't the same.  They
don't develop for Linux like they do for Solaris.  They also don't
make it easy for a customer to buy their products without using
(paying for) support.  The documentation you get online is not the
documentation the sun techs carry around with them on DVD.  All this
talk about the Debian dev going to work for them hasn't appeared to do
much for Solaris.  If Sun came through, I think I would support them
more then Oracle.
