Cool... I'm very interested in these issues. My recent laptop has an NVIDIA 9800 gt. I demonstrated a live linux gaming distro at the last meeting.
The distro was running totally from a USB thumb drive and had dozens of games. For those that may be interested you can download it here: http://live.linux-gamers.net There are various images. I had no luck with the large USB image, but had no problem using Unetbootin to install the DVD image to the thumbdrive. BTW this is a Arch Linux install, totally custimized with game launch panels top and bottom.
