While googling for open source registry tools, I came across RegShot http://sourceforge.net/projects/regshot/
Lifehacker has a cool little write up on it also. http://lifehacker.com/376671/troubleshoot-and-monitor-registry-changes-with-regshot Just drop the exe file on your hard drive, take a snapshot, name the snapshot, do whatever you do (install a program or whatever), take another snapshot, and then compare the two hiv files.
