Today, I hit the "auto-upgrade" utility on pfSense 1.2.2 to bring it up to
1.2.3, and it was a huge mistake. After several minutes, I went into the
command line and saw that the kernel would not boot.  Googling, I found that
others had similar problems with Dell Optiplex models, and I just ended up
reinstalling everything from scratch with a v1.2.3 ISO.

(Interestingly, the packet shaper utility seems to work much much better
now, which was why I upgraded in the first place!)

I think the motto here is if it says "auto", you "ought to" NOT do it!
