I looked up my notes on earlier LUG brainstorming, and will add/interlace some new/updated thoughts ... A. Events, event booths 1. Technical: SCALE et al. 2. Community/social/general a. farmers markets: Redlands, LL, Riverside, ... b. other? 3. Business/organizations: chambers of commerce (have we interest in joining chambers and the like?), Largest Mixer, et al. B. College/University networking, liasons, etc. C. Web directories, links, SEO 1. LUG directories: lalugs.org, http://www.linux.org/groups/ 2. web-wide general directories: OpenDirectory <dmoz.org>, etc. 3. local directories: Google Local; Yahoo-free?, listingsus.com, iebw.com, ... 4. would LUG fit in social-action (socially conscious, digital divide) directories if there is such 5. Ask all members to link to LUG website, from websites owned by member (e.g. http://whizman.com/aboutwz.php) 6. Ensure the relevant terms/words in text on LUG website, so we will get *relevant* search hits 7. IE craigslist.org, inlandempire.backpage.com? *. Make sure to utilize the free directories - do we have any interest in anything for which we have to pay? D. Print media 1. Free event listings - how many of the following have such?: SB Sun, R.D.Facts, Press/Ent, Reader Mag, Green Sheet, Mad About Redl, Hometown Vals, etc. 2. Info card the size of a business card, easy to hand out if LUG comes up in a conversation, post on bulletin boards at coffee shops etc. *. Would we like to pursue, or like to avoid, sponsorship and/or funding from local businesses (esp. those in which list members are decision-makers) ?
