xlhtml looks interesting.  I seem to be getting an error

~$ file.xls > file.html
cole - The file is not a OLE2 file

Also, I am really looking for a way to import xls or ods data into a
odf (openoffice word doc).  I know this can be down in M$ Office,
i.e., importing address list from spreadsheet into a word documents.
