I'm using Kubuntu. It appears that when I do updates, etc., KPackageKit gets
run. When I run Synaptic from Kubuntu's KDE desktop it's an ugly environment
which doesn't tell me anything about any package. When I run KPackageKit I get
a short synopsis of every program. So yes.

I'm opening KPackageKit from the KDE menu system as installed by Kubuntu 9.10.
It always worked until recently. Yesterday was the first time I saw the
problem.

It's always put up a box that asked me to authenticate. I do. Until
yesterday it always continued. Beginning yesterday it started failing.

When I run

$ sudo kpackagekit

it works as it should; it doesn't ask me for a password since I've already
entered it.

Obviously this isn't a show-stopper today, but it IS another indication to me
that kde 4.x as installed in kubuntu is seriously broken.

There are lots of other examples, but for the purpose of this thread, we'll
stick to this one.

Thanks for your points.
