Well I got my new ASUS netbook (also got my girl a pink one for her birthday
for school purposes) and fired that bad boy up. It came with Windows 7
Starter. I've been using Ubuntu religiously and haven't used Window in some
time so I decited to see what Windows 7 is really about (I've used it here
and there but really didn't use it if you know what I mean). Well first off,
it came with something called Windows 7 Starter.... Starter??? Well it turns
out Windows 7 Starter has to be the most basic piece of S@#T I've ever
encountered. I couldn't even change the desktop picture, that's how weak it
was. I really couldn't get into it but I was going to install Ubuntu any
ways, but the thing that gets me that my girlfriend doesn't know Ubuntu and
needs Office because she said she doesn't like open office and needs Word
and powerpoint for school so she is limited with this Windows Starter crap.
I also noticed an icon in the control panel that says "Windows Anytime
Upgrade"... WTF is that what Windows is coming to, they have to rip off
their customers. They want $79.95 for home premium, the weakest one, then
you have to pay god knows how much for Office. This netbook that started
cheap is starting to get expensive and giving me a headache and makes me
just want to return it. In short I told her she is using Open Office and
that's the end of it. I just had to share with the group how ridicules and
disappointing what should be a good experience should have been turned the
opposite.
