A google for 8168/8111 shows that a lot of people have (or had) issues with this card. An Ubuntu forum post suggested that more recent kernels seem to work. Since you are running RHEL 5, you might want to call Red Hat to ask them whether the right strategy is to use a newer kernel, a different driver, or a different card.
