Yes, it's called Dual-Booting. > Would it interfere with Windows? Contrary, I've historically had problems with Windows corrupting the hard drive in ways that Linux had to work hard to repair. Not fun. > Would it know which system to boot to? Yes, it's called a Boot-Loader. Windows doesn't have a particularly outstanding loader, but the Linux loader (generally grub) will typically automatically detect Windows upon installation of Linux and offer to allow you to dual-boot. > Will my windows programs (all of them) run using Linux? No. There are several paths you might take: 1) Wine. Cheap (free) and the least annoying to use. Unfortunately it's also a hit-or-miss. If it works, fantastic. If not, there's usually nothing you can do. 2) Virtualization. Use something like Virtual Box OSE, Xen, or (for those with deep pockets - $50 IIRC) VMWare to run Windows without leaving Linux. Only this way Windows can't mess up your system. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Linux Users Group.
