I'm running Gentoo / fluxbox quite happily on a laptop with 256Meg, but I
was running Ubuntu before this. It was powerfully sluggish, but it ran.
The trick is to enable some swap space. If having ubuntu is important, you
have to use a live disc to create a swap partition, which the ubuntu
installer will recognize and use.
