I have the same thing....My user, the one that was created during the
install, is in the group root, which ALLOWS root privilege when
required via a password.  I don't see a need for more than that unless
you have others who you are going to allow to use your system.

In my case I have 3 kids using the system.  Two of the three are teens
and they have regular user profiles while the third is of toddler age
and that profile is a bit more restricted

I think you are on the right track....

As for connecting to the internet, it would be advisable to put a
Linksys or other router between your modem and your computer.
Connecting direct the the modem makes your system completely live on
the internet and open for probing and hacking....If you hide behind a
router, the likelyhood of being probed/hacked is minimal.
