I think Fedora/RH boxes use the /var/log/boot log to put boot messages
in(last I remember). The only thing you can use as a barometer is whether
the filesystems require checking because they weren't unmounted before the
system was shutoff. The system tells you this upon boot time...it might be
in /var/log/dmesg, but I am almost sure its in the /var/log/boot.
