-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Any Linux distro can do more than what you need. Just pick one that you are familiar with. My Debian box is my router, fileserver, torrent server, blah blah; basically everything...I even mount my home partitions from it. If you have any Mac systems around you'd seriously do yourself a favor looking into WebDAV. Macs can read ftp but can't put files to it, without a third party client.
Surprised no one recommended these two devices below...especially the NSLU2. It's quite popular and a very easy hack and it's also smaller than what you are looking for. You can build yourself a mini-itx server,(mini-itx.com). I use Mandriva with proftpd for mine, and I also support ssh tunneling. The real issue is traffic, and the *real* real issue is what kind of ISP service you have. The real bottleneck will likely not be your box if you are serving from home. FTP is not cpu-intensive, and I just use an old laptop I own that has a broken screen. It's fast enough to serve at DSL speeds. | | billo | | On Sat, 17 Jan 2009, [email protected] wrote: | |> Does anyone have any experience building their own ftp server for use |> on a hoem network?
