Check the output of this command:

less /etc/resolv.conf
or
sudo less /etc/resolv.conf

This is what your current DNS setting is, where it goes to resolve domain
names. If your ubutnu server has it's IP address set statically, then you
can go in an edit that in the network configuration in the GUI. If it pulls
the IP address info automatically, then there may be a problem with that DNS
server. As an alternative test, you can change the DNS server to an OpenDNS
server: 208.67.222.222
