You may or may not need a driver for this. It might already be in the kernel. You should look online to see if there are kernel drives for your modem. Also if the modem is external, you can just plug into the serial port and not need drivers (they just utilize the kernel drivers for the serial port).
You should look online for documents about how to setup PPP and dial- up for Linux to see what basic steps you should do, and how ot troubleshoot what went wrong. If you can provide us more information on *why* it didn't work, we can try to point you in the right direction. Good luck.
