I have been fighting with gmail for some time too. It seems that the
standard fixes (clearing the cache and cookies, restarting FF, etc)
have been... well... fixing it.

Although I use mac, i have been having this problem on windows xp too.
I didn't notice it immediately after doing an update, so I'd just
attributed it to google making changes. ::shrug::

Have you checked pop/imap when this happens? Is it still working? It
seems to me that the first time this happened I couldn't get imap to
work, but it has worked since.
