Nothing boots in 2 - 5 seconds unless it runs from the BIOS (Splashtop) or SSD. For Linux to boot fast you need to skip all hardware detection, limit scripts that load on startup and not load the OS into a RAM disk. You need a minimalist distro such as DSL setup to run this way. It is possible, but you would have to do it yourself.
