For the video have you added the Medibuntu repository? It tends to
give better media support in Ubuntu.

As far as Samba there was a regression introduced in Gnome a while
back that has caused intermittent issues but unfortunately that is not
a top fix for the Gnome devs. I would try one of the alternate samba
browsers out there. In addition a future update may fix it for you.
