I should point out that this article makes the false claim that linux is
"safe against virus and malware attacks". It is safer against viruses than
windows, but they still happen (
http://antivirus.about.com/library/weekly/aa070102a.htm - this is an article
about an apache worm - a virus that can impact linux), and malware (which
requires user intervention to install) runs rampant - i.e. rootkits. You
hear about those all the time. Somebody improperly secured their linux
server and one day discovered they no longer owned the box.

Having an uninformed, utopian view of linux is nearly as dangerous to our
community as having a derisive view. Some people see linux as the magic
bullet, "if I install linux, I'll never have to worry about security
again!", which is just plain wrong. The real thought should be "if I install
linux I'll have to worry *a lot less* about my computer being compromised in
spite of the security measures I've taken" - but there is no "worry-free"
solution, in the linux world or elsewhere. Linux still allows you to install
things like telnet (which transmit cleartext passwords) and run programs
that you download from arbitrary websites (which could harm your computer).
