Particularly the part on 'Incremental backups with rsync'.  I've used
this sort of scheme to implement a nightly backup that I can retain for
30 days, using only a nominal amount of disk space beyond the first full
backup.

My backups run to a server with mirrored storage, so I have some
redundancy; if you're planning to backup to external storage you may
want to investigate tar/cpio instead of rsync (it will work much better
for making external incremental backups, i.e. to optical or tape disks).
