There are many good KDE based distros and it all comes down to
personal preference. I use Kubuntu. My son uses Arch. He prefers the
hands on approach and I like quick and dirty. Many distributions come
in both GNOME and KDE versions. these would include Fedora, openSuSE
and Mandriva. I like SimplyMEPIS 8.5 and Sidux as KDE distributions as
well as Kubuntu. If you want only 32-bit then you could add PCLinuxOS
into the mix.

I would avoid distributions that provide KDE 3.5. I believe that this
is the case with Debian and a few smaller and older distributions,
including SimplyMEPIS 8.0.

Things to consider are support (released regularly, updated promptly,
documentation, online help, etc.), package management (RPM, Deb,
Pacman, Portage, etc), community (friendliness, size, forums, etc.),
size of repositories (what applications are available or unavailable
to you). I chose Kubuntu because it meets all of the above and tops
most other distros. However, not everybody needs the latest and
greatest or the depth of repositories. So you need to decide what you
want.

I have run just about every distribution and like several. I like
MEPIS, Mandriva and Fedora, if I was to move away from Kubuntu, but
see no need. I am running Kubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) and love it. I
can't wait until 10.10.10 when it is finalised and released. I loved
Fedora 12, but am not crazy about Fedora 13, so you may take awhile
for you to settle on one distribution to keep.

Keep in mind whatever I or anyone tells you that it is all very subjective.

Good luck!

Roy
