I would be interested to see what you found out.
I'm working on a concept that allows me to have single machine that works as
workstation with desktop,In background it runs server in VM enviroment.

The server can have multiple users accounts.
Each user can have domain/s and manage the account through ssh/ftp.

For me as main user/owner I'm planing to set it up that it will server all
my data remotly as needed.

And sync them all together with the Workstation and, laptop and hendhelds of
mine.

Final concept is to have access to unlimited storage /up or down with flash
server(red5) to stream any of my data instantly, photo gallery, file
gallery, way to communicate wit other people through video conference and
through video chat and video consultation. And also provide hosting for my
clients/friends to place they sites and adventiually allow them to have the
same tools as my self through web interface.

I guess it is very close to a cloud computing. But on small personal scale
with unlimited storage.
The limit will be bandwidth at this point to do steaming and flash apps but
in future that would be the idea to have.

The idea is also mainly builded on personal ownership instead outsourcing it
to uncontrollable environment.

And all Browser based.

Central point of all i need all i have any place any time and side effect
for others too with hint of business of website hosting and file
storing......rely is modular so there is no limits.

i use so far ubuntu 10.04 64 desktop with vmware server and on it ubuntu
10.04lts server.LAMP,red5,ISPconfig3,joomla,word-press,gallery2........

But if i can find more central like apps they will push this project in
direction.
