Before you condemn distributions for making decisions not to auto mount
USB drives you may want to watch this video here:

When you listen to this, and keep in mind this pointed more to Ubuntu
10.10, it makes a good point. Linux developers are extremely aware of
the issues this video points out and are working to fix these problems
but auto-mounting and media can create serious risks so many opt not to
auto-mount and instead ask you what you want to do instead. I set my
default to ask first in Ubuntu before I ever watched this video, but
I've always been a bit more security conscious.
