If you've not reformatted, you can use gpart to recover it:

http://oss.sgi.com/LDP/HOWTO/LILO-crash-rescue-HOWTO/disk_partition_rescue.html

Basically, gpart /dev/sda will auto detect all the partitions that may or
may not be on sda (without partition table entries).  gpart -W /dev/sda
/dev/sda will perform the detection & write out a new partition table with
the detected entries.
