· Technology
o Installation & configuration of Linux servers using Kickstart/Other
Automated Mechanisms.
o In-depth knowledge about the Redhat Linux OS
o Strong DNS Concepts and working knowledge of Bind
o Strong Networking and Internet Fundamentals.
o In-depth knowledge about common protocols like POP, IMAP, SMTP,
HTTP, DNS, TCP, UDP & IP.
o In-depth knowledge about Apache/IIS web servers and ability to
troubleshoot problems related to them.
o In-depth knowledge about qmail MTA and ability to troubleshoot
problems related to them.
o In-depth knowledge about application servers like Tomcat/Resin.
o Knowledge about web scripting languages like PHP/JSP/Servlets/ASP.
o Ability to program in an administrative language (Tk, Perl, PHP,
shell) and to write small C programs.
o Able to perform system tasks such as back-up, upgrades, network
troubleshooting as required.
o Able to troubleshoot user systems or network devices as required
o Ability to solve a problem quickly & completely.
o Knowledge of MySQL, PostgresSQL & MS-SQL databases.
The Job
Installation, Configuration & Management
Configuration and administration of all corporate Windows and Linux
systems.
Monitoring servers & services
Applying patches as released.
Log monitoring & reporting.
Troubleshooting complex support issues.
Help desk management
Handle customer calls & support requests.
Handle in-house user requests.
Automation
Identifying manual/repetitive tasks and automating it.
Documentation
Documenting processes, troubleshooting information, problems and their
resolutions.
Vendor management
Co-ordinate with data centers to troubleshoot network, system & hardware
problems.
Co-ordinate with ISP's, Office infrastructure related vendors in
resolving issues related to Internet connectivity, Phone lines etc.
Escalate problems internally to superiors as well as with vendors
superiors according to the escalation charts defined.
Research & Development
Constantly self-update technical know-how with respect to hosting
industry.
Understand tools & technologies used by system administrators.
Miscellaneous tasks
Coordinating with developers and getting bugs fixed, features added.
Following technical processes.
Handle delegated tasks.
Experience
0-1.5 yrs experience in Linux/Windows System Administration.
Past experience in a hosting company preferable.
