I had the same problem
  do this thing

  #chkconfig --add smb

  and check

#chkconfig --list | grep smb or

  #service --status-all | grep smb

is this shows u smd deamon u have installed smb

if u have smb.conf that doesnt mean u have installed samba sucessfully

  else go

  /etc/init.d/

  ll smb*

  if it doesnt shows u
u does have the init script installed

copy smb script and paste it there(/etc/init.d/)

  and dont forget to check

  rpm -qa | grep samba

  rpm -ql | grep
  grep for smb
