Can anyone provide me with a complete guide of making RHEL 5 kernel
to
be compiled so that it can read and write NTFS (file system). Also how
can one make a NTFS partition with parted or fdisk.
Waiting for a exact and correct configuration of the same.
Regards,
Ravi.
Hi,
Just check with below link to make read/write support in rhel 5
http://blog.irwan.name/?p=36
For making partition with fdisk or parted you need to know System ID or
Partition ID for NTFS file system and it is 7.Below is the output of one of my
NTFS drive
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdc1 1 249 2000061 7 HPFS/NTFS
suppose you are formatting above drive i.e. /dev/sdc1 with fdisk and creating
new NTFS partition then following are the steps:
1)type command "fdisk /dev/sdc"
2)From fdisk menu press "d" to delete existing partition i.e /dev/sdc1
3)press "n" to add new partition and press "p" for primary partition or "e" for
extended
4)select partition "1"
5)select starting cylinder and last cylinder
5)Press "t" from same fdisk menu to select System ID and here press "7" which
is used for NTFS file system.
6)save by pressing "w"
new partition will be created with NTFS file system.
