The dmesg has no entry of a NIC or any relevant information. Also the NIC is 
onboard.

Can you do a dmesg and check if the network card is detected. lspci will

only show if the device you looking for is a pci device.

as you mentioned it is a rack server. Can you specify the make of Network Card.

Now days most of the server's and Desktop's are using Broadcom NIC . 

For broadcom you can download the drivers for linux from broadcom site.

pls refer the below site for broadcom driver.
