When you had send mail from gmail to your server that time gmail server may be unable to connect to your server. that is why mail goes into deferred queue and it send one notice to you. After specific time period it will again try to send your mail. Even you are able to telnet to your server but it should be telnet from gmail's smtp server. it might be that it would not able to telnet to your server. Try to send mail from 3-4 different domain or server.
