Hello

I have just been successful in installing and using the product, but
with some difficulty.

My Linux system is 2.6.12-12mdk, and the drawing tablet is Wacom Volito
model FT-0405-U.

I downloaded linuxwacom-0.7.4-2.tar.bz2 when that was the latest
version, and following the instructions in the
linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/index.php/howto, did not even get action out
of the devices.

The device(s) was loaded by insmod into /dev/input/event2, and
configuring XFconfig86 / Xorg.conf I could see the devices in Gimp.
"xidump -l" reported the devices but saw nothing if I ran the program
for a device. Similarly wacdump showed no activity, however with
wacdump, if I loaded the program with a pen hovering it would report the
pen but no movement, or with any of the pen switches pressed they would
be reported but no movement.

I had no luck with the device in X.

I then downloaded linuxwacom-0.7.4-3.tar.bz2, and installed that, and
everything came to life in the console interface wacdump. X refused to
work though, with 3 comments in the log file:

(EE) No input driver matching `Wacom'

for all three devices (Stylus, Cursor and Eraser).

"xidump -l" also did not report the devices, so I re-installed the
wacom_drv.so from release linuxwacom-0.7.4-2.tar.bz2, and magic... it
all worked. Just as you had reported in your instructions that there had
been a problem with pressure and the airbrush for Gimp, I found the same
problem. Renaming the ~/.gimp2.2 directory and restarting Gimp solved
the problem.

I may have made some mistakes on the original installation, and I was
foxed as to what to do to solve it. It may have been necessary to load
the source files from wacom into the
/usr/src/linux-2.6.12-12mdk/drivers/usb/input/ kernel directory, which I
did not do originally. However, my main concern was the fact that
loading wacom_drv.so from the current release linuxwacom-0.7.4-3.tar.bz2
does not work. I have backed it out and reinstalled it and it refuses to
work with X.

Hope that this can be of use to you somewhere.

regards
Graham Lambert
