No mention of PRESSURE or any *_Z from wacdump.  I hacked the code where 
you mentioned to accept 0 and the error no longer shows up in my 
Xorg.0.log file, but I get no response when I touch the screen.  The 
cursor doesn't move and xidump just sits there.  I also tried setting 
common->wcmMaxZ=511 just before the check, but everything is the same as 
when I just let zero through.

Here is an "action shot" from wacdump with my finger on the screen:
