Please contact with kernel core developers to get their opinion first. I think the concept in your wacomproxy.c should apply to all input devices instead of just wacom. If that is true, the code should be common to all input devices. That is, it should be in a shared file, such as evdev.c.

Hi,
I've just uploaded a new version of my kernel module that will enable
hotplugging a Wacom tablet without any special tricks attached (meaning: no
VT-switching).
It also seems to fix a problem with kernel oops:es when unplugging the tablet.
Not everybody seems have this behaviour, but I have not had one single oops
since I started using it and I used to get it every time..
It does not alter the properties of the device, so if you have a working
configuration today you should not notice any difference in operation.
The latest changes are mostly cleanup of the code to conform to linux kernel
source standards, but I did eliminate a memory leak as well (50-70 bytes
every time a tablet was unplugged).
As always, available at: http://195.38.3.2/linuxprojs/
Feedback on the idea/implementation/performance most appreciated.
I'm getting to a point where I feel I'm almost ready to send patch updates to
different places, but first a few questions you you all:
The current implementation only handles one tablet at a time. Would it be
benificial to have support for several proxy devices each serving a different
physical tablet? Might be messy to configure X in this case as there's no
guarantee that the tablets end up on the same proxy-dev every time.
Who is the suitable receiver for this driver? The linuxwacom-project or is it
recommended to go directly to the kernel-maintainers?
BR
