If there's a problem to compile the kernel modules it will not be possible to install the compiled binaries with the makefiles as that requires a successful compilation. The compilation of the kernel modules are the last ones in the make and therefore if you can't get the make to go through you can always copy the compiled binaries by hand to the right locations (where the old ones are). > The thing is also... If you get compilation errors when compiling the kernel modules there should be no files in any of the 2.*-directories. If I were you however, I'd look in the 2.6.16 directory instead as that's where the compiled kernel modules will end up on your kernel. Did that make it more understandable?
