No problem to configure/compile on a Mepis-based machine. I guess you've 
already checked that the file it complains about exists (libXi.so, probably 
in /usr/lib)..

However if you only need the kernel module (the bug only affect the kernel 
module code afaik) you should be able to turn off the compilation of 
libwacomxi and that way get around the link error (--disable-libwacomxi).

Uhm... There has been reports of problems with the wacom tablets with this 
kernel.. Please make sure that this is not an issue for you.
