Hi,

I had sent following mail from my primary mail address but was returned
undeliverable. Hence, sending again through another email Id.

Hi,

Sorry for rather long mail. I am including details of all that I have
attempted so far. And though I have registered for linuxwacom-discuss
list,
I am unable to access the archives due to 500, internal server error.

I am using Toshiba Satellite R-10 Tablet PC. The tablet, as per windows
XP
system information is wacom serial tablet, connected to serial port (com1,
-
though it doesn't anywhere specifically say so). The I/O range reported
is
0338-033f and IRQ is 04.

I have installed SuSE Linux 10.2. I have been trying to configure the
tablet under Linux, without much success. Following is what I have done:

ran xxd /dev/ttys0. The script runs, i. e., it doesn't exit with any code
unless I end it with ctrl+C. But, otherwise there is no output when I
move
the stylus across the screen.

xxd /dev/ttys1 (2 and 3) result into immediate exit, without any return
code.

xxd /dev/ttys4 (5, 6, ...) result into exit with error code xxd: /dev/ttys4:
No such device or address.

setserial /dev/ttys0 (or setserial -g /dev/ttys0) results in dev/ttys0:
Input/output error.

The boot messages include following with regard to "serial":
<notice>setserial start
Configuring serial ports...
/dev/ttyS0 at 0x0338 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
Configured serial ports
done<notice>'setserial start' exits with status 0

I downloaded and configured the latest driver (linuxwacom-0.7.6-4). There
were no warnings while configuring. I installed the same (make and make
install). There were some messages, though no warnings. However, I haven't
recorded the output of this process.

Running wacdump /dev/ttys0 results in:
18:06:06.703 ERROR: Failed to open /dev/ttys0: input/output error
WacomOpenTablet: input/output error.

I am not a computer expert, I don't work in IT field - I am simple user
of
computers and can reasonably follow directions.

Any help on enabling Tablet on this laptop (Toshiba Satellite R-10, Tablet
PC) is welcome.

As a last resort, If you would like me to change the distribution to
something like Mepis, Mandriva, etc., I am open for that!

Thanks and
Happy new year to you all

Vikas Garud
