Ping, LinuxWacom-discuss,

I see on the SourceFourge project page that the bug that I was referring
to in this thread has been fixed, and is scheduled to release in the
0.7.7-2 release of the LinuxWacom drivers.

This is awesome news, and as a graphics designer hoping to make a go of
doing graphics in a fully open source environment, this is a huge, huge
development for me.

Apologies in advance for being like a kid on the night before Christmas,
but I had a question about the process by which the drivers become
available in repositories.

I understand (and appreciate), that at the outset, the LinuxWacom
drivers are written by coders volunteering their time and that new
releases come basically when the programmers can get around to it. Fair
enough.

What is not clear to me, though, is how the drivers make their way from
being available on the LinuxWacom page at SourceForge to being a package
in a repository available for largely automatic install. Nor is it clear
to me who makes the decisions or is doing the work of maintaining the
package in the repository.

Ages ago, my first attempts at installing the LinuxWacom drivers from
the source available on the web page were met with mixed results.
Installing and upgrading from the repositories has been a huge help to me.

However, I notice that the repositories don't follow a clear pattern for
upgrades. They certainly don't become available with each advance on the
SourceForge site. The currently available package in the Ubuntu
repositories is 0.7.2. The current release on the web site is 0.7.7.

So I'm wondering what my options are for getting this much desired
bug-fix featured release when it's available. Can I take the code off
the SourceForge web site and somehow overwrite it on what I already have
so as to not have to do a full (and historically unsuccessful) manual
install? Is there anyone I can ask nicely and politely if they will
consider making it available in the repositories? Do I simply have to
wait and hope?

Sorry if my anxiousness offends anyone in any way. I ask these questions
because I really don't know how a lot of these things work, and hope to
understand so I can ease my eagerness.

All the work on this project by all its volunteers is much appreciated.
Thank you.
