Yes, I'd say it's a good idea. Wacom tablets has good support under Linux. Configuration of the Xserver is required though, but our howto should be able to help you there. I use one myself partly as a replacement for a mouse. The Wacom Volito2 you mention is fully supported and the pressure sensitive parts works fine.
