This is fine.  It won't affect anything in Wacom driver except loading
an extra device which may not be part of the connected tablet.

I'll add this approach along with Ron's so users can make their own decision.

There is always room to improve, isn't it.  I would more than happy to
test and incorporate any patches supporting this and any other new
features.  I may work on it myself when I have time. Let's hope the
best.
