Hi folks,
In the recent past, I've referred to a new freebie list-hosting service
that will be coming on line "soon." Well, soon is now -- Topica has
unveiled its "Preview Release" today.
You can reach them at <http://www.topica.com>. The Preview Release
includes some pretty nice list-management features, such as bounce
handling (with owner-selectable thresholds), private lists, owner-
configurable auto-approval/rejection of subscription requests, list
statistics, etc. One nice feature is that people can subscribe,
unsubscribe, read mail, etc., entirely via e-mail; there is never a
requirement for a subscriber to use the Web interface, or even know
that it exists. On the brighter side, the Web interface is pretty
slick (IMO), and feedback from my subscribers has been very positive
so far.
Of particular interest to this community is the fact that Topica has
worked with Liszt.com, PAML, and Tile.net to construct a rather huge
database of mailing lists. If your list was listed in one of the
contributing databases, then you should also be in Topica's database.
(While perusing Topica's database, I realized for the first time that
I'd forgotten to update Liszt and PAML for two lists that I'd moved.
If there is outdated information in the database -- or if you have any
comments on the site, etc. -- just drop a note to Sven Hindman, Topica
Customer Support, at <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.)
Remember, this is a Preview Release, so be nice. ;-) The site is up
permanently, though, and you can feel free to set up and/or join
mailing lists at will. There might be intermittent outages as new
releases are moved out, but these should be short (and not terribly
often). Also remember that comments, compliments, criticism, etc.,
go to Sven at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Enjoy!
