Word is a proprietary format controlled by a single vendor (and, I might add, monopolistic, predatory, greedy vendor) and is only intelligible to people running proprietary software. Its use on the 'net is contrary to the entire spirit of open standards that built the Internet -- and in fact, the existence of disparate formats like Word, WordPerfect, etc., is one of the motivating factors for formats like HTML and PDF.
