One of the main difficulties of taking this approach is that for viruses
and the like you have to consider any Word or Excel attachment to be an
executable in the presence of macro viruses.

Munging anything with a specified file name ending in .exe may help,
though, given that I don't think Microsoft's clients pay any real
attention to the MIME content-type.
