Hi,

I have recently been dealing with an issue that I hope I can get some advice on here.
On one of the lists that I maintain & administer, I have had individuals reportedly
attack individuals via personal email about things that they have posted on this
particular list. In the list rules, I only specify that there be no personal attacks
publicly on the list, or they are removed.

I have been loathsome to deal with personal attacks via personal email because it
comes down to a "he said, she said" a lot of times. Or someone could get pissed off
at someone, and forge an attack, and someone gets removed for no reason at all.
(o.k., so that one is somewhat far-fetched) In the incident I described before, I
banned the abusive individual (who in this case, fessed up to his abusive behavior)
from the list.

Now the question I have is, now that I realize that this particular list rule needs
updating - How have others handled this issue? Is it a case that since the list was
where the persons "met", that it's an issue for the list administrator. Is it the
case that personal emails are treated as public messages in this case? I am just
looking for ideas in how to update this rule, and provide some protection for the rest
of the list subscribers...

Thanks & Best Wishes - Peter
(whose nightmare is to find some "scorned" user somewhere who gets banned, signs up to
the list w/ multiple addresses and causes havoc)

O.k., so I am paranoid :)
