What I like even better is "demime" - it's a filter that, among other things, converts HTML or rich text to plain text, and strips binary attachments like images and email worms ("viruses"). If your mailing list system can have a filter on incoming messages, this works really well - no more worries about what users are sending, since it all gets converted to plain text.
